News you can use
Editor,
In one of the many informational TV programs about COVID-19 a doctor explained why masks work. (Sorry, I didn’t catch his name)
He stated that even though the virus is microscopic, it is surrounded by droplets of moisture from your respiratory system causing it to be absorbed by your mask. You are therefore protecting other people. This is important as many infected people are asymptomatic (without symptoms).
He went on to say that the mask may not protect you from someone else because by the time the virus reaches you it may not be surrounded moisture, much like a dust particle.
Scientists tell us that until a vaccine is available we have three things to protect us from the virus, social distancing, hand washing and masks.
This is a vicious disease, Just in the past week doctors report that what they are seeing paralysis and post viral heart disease in some patients. Wearing a mask is a reasonable ask. I’ll wear one to protect you, please wear one to protect me. Thanks
