From Bullhook Blossoms Garden Club
Bullhook Blossoms select Ed and Bonnie Long Knife's "Yard of All Seasons" at 1610 West 10th St.
Passerby will find this yard whimsically decorated for Halloween or nicely adorned for Christmas and especially designed for spring and summer. The foliage is lush and blossoms radiant during these hot August days. Being located on a corner lot allows one to view two sides of the home and garden.
The east side, named Glacier Park, features window boxes, blue spruce and Alberta spruce trees, shrubbery and shade for a secluded area. The north curb side floral area is named the Bermuda Triangle for its mysterious happenings. It introduces one to the curved driveway that leads to a beautiful floral entry to the home or nearby area with two large rocking chairs for leisure moments.
The backyard is designed with shade trees and lots of roses and peonies to create a park-like impression. Throughout the gardens are mementos from family trips such as rocks, driftwood or artwork. Special guests to the garden are many birds lured by bird houses, bird baths and numerous artistic bird feeders year around and Shirley, the squirrel.
Unusual weeping ornamental caraganas line the boulevard on 16th Avenue West. For the past five years, this yard has been a family affair with all members sharing in the design, planting, maintenance and grooming of the yard or decorating for the holidays. They have balanced perennials with annuals adding continued color throughout the summer season.
Remember to visit and enjoy the yard this week and again at Halloween and Christmas.
