Whether bicyclists are trying to get road miles in before the weather turns cold, or they’re planning an adventure for the future, Montana Department of Transportation has provided an updated Bicycling the Big Sky pocket map to help.
This map is a companion to the Official State Highway Map that includes highway information for bicyclists, state laws and regulations pertaining to bicyclists, and safety tips for sharing the road, a notice from MDT says.
Included on the map are bicyclist-specific details such as shoulder widths, grade, sections with rumble strips, average truck and passenger vehicle numbers, as well as locations with campgrounds, hospitals and bicycle services.
The section on regulations lists Montana Code Annotated laws including general traffic laws, riding on roadways, and lamp and equipment requirements. Additional resources include contact information for offices of tourism, state and national parks, U.S. Forest Service and Adventure Cycling Association, along with how to call for current road conditions.
The map can be found online at https://mdt.mt.gov/travinfo/docs/bike_map.pdf, or requested at http://mdt.mt.gov/travinfo/bikeped . Vacation packets can be requested at https://visitmt.com/guidebookorder.html .
