Letter to the Editor - McLean, Peterson endangering people

Editor,

Hill County Commissioners Mark Peterson and Diane McLean need to re-evaluate their duties to this community. One would assume it is their job to listen to those with knowledge and expertise and then make the best decision for everyone. Yes, they are responsible to their constituents and should listen to their concerns. But, it is also their job to make a decision based on the best information they are given, and then explain to their constituents why the decision is being made.

The Hill County Clerk and Recorder recommended mail-in voting for the upcoming election, stating the mail-in ballot process would be largely identical to the June primary. That primary was conducted successfully. There has been no evidence mail-in ballots compromised the integrity of our votes. None. Here, or anywhere else for that matter. And the Hill County Clerk and Recorder’s office has already proven they can handle the task.

Instead of providing a safe voting process for everyone, Peterson and McLean chose to ignore the facts. Their decision will endanger not only the county election judges, but everyone in the county. I encourage them to take a seat at a polling place on Election Day and stay there for the entire day. They can show their solidarity with those they have chosen to put at risk.
