Legal Tip of the Week: Do you know what an ITI report is?

From Montana Legal Services Association

An ITI report is an Individual Trust Interest report, which you can get from your local BIA office or from the Regional BIA office in Billings, MT. An ITI report lists all the tribal trust land that an individual owns, regardless of location. When you are writing your will, it is a good idea to request an updated copy of your ITI report. Sometimes people inherit land without being aware of it. If you own tribal trust land, you may be able to use a free program to write your own will. Montana Legal Services Association and the Indian Land Tenure Foundation partnered together to create the free “Will-in-a-Box,” a do-it-yourself Indian Will for Native Americans. Find the free will at: montanalawhelp.org/resource/indian-will-in-a-box .
