A fire is burning on Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation near the top of Baldy Mountain.
Rocky Boy’s forestry department said this morning the department was had no time available this morning and would provide details on the fire later today.
Big Sandy Volunteer Fire Department reported Sunday that it was put on standby for the fire but had since been released.
Renee Brown, who lives on a ranch just south of the reservation near Warrick, said Sunday she noticed the fire around 3:30 to 4 p.m. Saturday and she heard that fire crews from the Rocky Boy Volunteer Fire Department were having trouble accessing the fire due to the terrain.
“It’s almost impossible to get to so their having to hike into it,” she said.
Brown said while the fire seems difficult to get to, she hadn’t seen much activity from it yet Sunday morning.
“It’s not doing a whole lot at the moment, just a little smoke now and then,” she said, “It’s staying put for the most part. We don’t have a whole lot of wind so that helps.”
She said Sunday morning she saw a spotter plane Saturday, but there hadn’t been any water drops.
The Havre Daily News had not heard back from the Box Elder Fire Department.
