Havre City Council approves new probationary police officer

A new probationary police officer was appointed Monday at City Council.

Havre Police Department Chief Gabe Matosich appointed Brandon Murnion to the position of probationary police officer effective as of today.

Matosich said Murnion is from Chinook and is a graduate of Chinook High School.

Murnion has been working with the Hill County Sheriff’s Office as a detention officer and has previously worked for Crown Construction Company, Matosich said.

“Brandon has met all the necessary requirements for the position and has gone through an extensive background investigation,” Matosich said.

Brandon is scheduled to attend Montana Law Enforcement Academy in September, Matosich said.

“I believe Brandon will be a great asset and fit to the department,” Matosich added.

Val Murri said during the public comment section that Sixth Street going up from Seventh Avenue east up the hill is a 15 mph speed zone and requesting a sign or flashing sign of the speed limit.

He said he has met people who have been going 25 or 30 miles per hour down the street.

He said, laughing, Matosisch’s department could make a whole lot of money up there.

Havre Mayor Tim Solomon said those signs are school zone signs and that they are very expensive.

Finance Committee member and council member Ed Matter said the Finance Committee met before City Council and approved the July claims and manual warrants.

Independence Bank’s pledged securities for the quarter that ended June 30 were approved.

The next Ordinance Committee is set for Wednesday, Sept. 9.

The next City Council meeting is Monday, Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
