New kindergarten teacher set to start at Highland Park school

Editor's note: The Havre Daily News is attempting to interview new teachers in the local school districts. People who know of new teachers, or the new teachers themselves, can contact the Havre Daily at [email protected].

Highland Park Early Primary School has a new kindergarten teacher from western Montana.

"I'm looking forward to finally having my own and being the boss of my own room," Pamela Tackitt said. "All the experience I have had I've been under teachers, so it's finally a space that I can call mine and that I get to have my own group of kids that's what I look forward to most."

Due to COVID-19 she might have to teach remotely and she is preparing how she'll have to adjust accordingly.

She said she is preparing herself by becoming familiarized with Google Classroom, which is what some of the other teachers have used as their remote learning platform.

It is a little unknown with kindergarten, she said, because she has used it with older students, so she'll have to team up with some other teachers.

"As for preparing, I basically have an open mind when it comes to the type of work I am going to have them to do," Tackitt said. "A lot of it I have been thinking about having it so I can either print it off or I can just put it on Google Classroom and they can access it virtually."

It's still very much unknown right now, she added.

"There are a million different types of learners out there to me, so I like to make it so that everybody can access it in their own way," she said.

She said she just graduated from Montana State University-Northern with a degree in elementary education and art.

She is originally from  St. Ignatius north of Missoula, she said.

"This is my first year, I graduated from college in the spring, so this is my very first year teaching," Tackitt said. "I'm excited about everything, but mostly just having my own group of kids and getting to know them and having a whole new year with them  instead of just a couple months like I have had before."

"I flow with everything. I can do anything they ask me to do. I'm just along for the ride and I'm just excited to finally meet my kids, and hopefully have a good school year if COVID doesn't prevent that," she added.
