For the second straight year, a Montana Grizzly linebacker has been selected as the Big Sky Conference Preseason Defensive MVP.
On the final day of the Big Sky's Virtual Kickoff, last Friday, Montana senior Jace Lewis was named the Preseason Defensive MVP, along side Preseason Offensive MVP Eric Barriere, the super-talented quarterback from Eastern Washington.
Lewis was an All-Conference performer as a junior, playing alongside star LB Dante Olson. Olson, who led the FCS in tackles two straight years, was the Big Sky Defensive Player of the Year in 2019, as well as the 2019 Buck Buchanen Award winner, which is the FCS' national defensive player of the year.
Lewis was also one of six Grizzlies and two Montana State Bobcats named to the Big Sky Preseason All-Conference Team. On offense, the Griz saw senior wide receivers Samori Toure and Sammy Akem, as well as OL Conlan Beaver named to the squad. Lewis, and junior safety Robby Hauck were named on defense, while junior Malik Flowers was named as the Kick Returner.
Montana State had two OL in Taylor Tuiasosopo and Lewis Kidd named to the offensive team.
Weber State had the most All-Conference picks with eight.

The league said football is being re-evaluated an announcement will be made at a later date. That announcement is expected to come by the end of this week.
So far, five FCS conference have announced their intentions to cancel or postponed fall sports, including FCS power conference the CAA.
