Some events still set at Blaine County Fair

Blaine County Fair is still set for Thursday, Aug. 13 through Sunday, Aug. 16, but with a few cancellations and changes.

Fair Manager Debbie Ramberg said all the food booths, carnival and petting zoo have canceled.

She said they have also canceled the demolition derby, pig wrestling, venders and all open class entries.

Ramberg said in an email Sunday that the fair board met with the county’s insurance representative and were told that the event would have no coverage for COVID-19 cases, but people would have to prove negligence to win a lawsuit and the fair does have a COVID-19 plan in place.

Cancellation of vendors in the Commercial Building and the Ag Hall was decided because the fair would not have enough staff for sanitizing and cleaning the entire grounds, she said.

She said at a fair board meeting Thursday the Blaine County Commission presented a resolution that would have shut down most events of more than 50 people on the fairgrounds, but the commission voted the resolution down 1-2.

The plans included holding the kids rodeo, but the event canceled Friday morning, Ramberg said.

4-H is still having a 4-H fair and the Bear Paw Roundup community is still putting on the rodeo with the Doo Wha Riders for entertainment, she said.

The fair board is putting on a concert with the Doo Wha Riders Saturday night, she said.

The 4-H fair is set for Thursday, Aug. 13, with times to be determined, but at 7 p.m. the PRCA Rodeo and The Doo Wha Riders performance will take place.

Friday, Aug. 14, at 7 p.m. PRCA Rodeo and The Doo Wha Riders is set.

And, Saturday, Aug. 15, at 7 p.m. The Doo Wha Riders will perform the concert.

“The fair board and rodeo committee have a COVID-19 plans in place, and will supply hand sanitizer and masks,” Ramberg said. “We will have in and out arrows marked. The grandstands will be roped off in 50 pod sections.”

She added that FFA plans to provide concessions and a food truck must present a plan to Blaine County Public Health Nurse Jana McPherson on how to serve at the fair.
