News you can use
Normally, beach volleyball tournaments take place…on the beach somewhere. But, in reality, all you really need is some sand, and you can play beach volleyball.
And they've got that in Gildford, where a Sand Volleyball Tournament will be held this weekend. The tournament, which is a doubles competition, will have two divisions — a ladies 14-and-up division Saturday, and a co-ed 14-and-up division Sunday.
The tournament costs $20 per team and starts at 8 a.m. both days. There will be winner's bracket games to two sets of 15 and a third set to 10 if needed. Consolation matches will be one set to 15.
Of course, the tourney is being held amidst the coronavirus, so organizers are asking that participants take extra precautions, such as bringing your own hand santizer or disinfectant wipes, practicing social distancing at all times when not playing, bringing your own lawn chair to sit in, and even bringing your own warm-up ball. There will be a limited concession, and event organizers ask that anyone who is sick, is feeling symptomatic or has been around anyone who has been sick to please not attend.
The tournament is a fundraiser for North Star High School volleyball and will be held on the sand court behind North Star Elementary in Gildford.
