COVID-19 has been a prevalent force that has halted seasons, sports and games multiple times since its initial sweep of the United States and Montana, but when it came to the Wednesday afternoon doubleheader that the Havre Northstars American Legion baseball club was to play against the Tri-County Cardinals in Conrad, it was another force of nature that got in the way.
The Northern A doubleheader the Northstars were set to play against the Cardinals was postponed due to the wet field conditions that took over the Conrad field, making playing conditions unsafe for the Class A teams. As of right now, Havre and Tri-County are looking to reschedule the game for another date in the near future.
With that, the next games in the lineup for the Northstars will be a doubleheader showdown against the Great Falls Lightning Sunday at 1 p.m. in Great Falls, which will be another tough battle for Havre.
Last time the two teams met up, it was at Legion Field back on June 10, where the Northstars split the doubleheader, first beating the Lightning 14-9 in the first game, then falling to Great Falls 13-5 in the second.
Havre will be bringing a strong group of players to Great Falls' home field. Quinn Reno and Theron Peterson have been consistent when it comes to getting hits while at bat, while Eli Cloninger and Trenton Maloughney have proved to be great drivers for the offense, as well. On top of that, the Northstars' overall depth in the lineup is great, too.
Havre's defense has been known to bring a big game, as well. Pitchers like Tyrel Kjersem, Carson Lunak and Julian Benson have put up outstanding performances on the plate this season already, while others like Kale Reno are able to provide another solid option on the mound. Overall, when Havre is in the field, they have shown some strong defense both in the outfield and infield at many times this year.
The doubleheader against the Lightning is sure to be another tough pair of battles for Havre, but the Northstars have been putting up strong games and grabbing great wins recently on the road, too, and are looking to do so again in the 1 p.m. showdown Sunday in Great Falls. All of the Northern District action will take place at Don Olson Memorial Field in Great Falls.
