Local Golf Report: Youth Golf League will be back

There are just some things that can wait right now, and while golf is moving forward, not everything can move with it.

Last week, I reported that the annual Rotary Golf Camp had been canceled for this summer, and now, the second-annual Summer Youth League has also been canceled. I spoke last week with league organizer Jeremy Jensen, and he and several other organizers made the tough decision to cancel the league for this summer.

The summer of 2019 was the first year of the youth league, and, in my opinion, it was a rousing success. So, while we will miss it this summer, just as we will miss golf camp, like so many things put on hold by the coronavirus, the youth league will be back in 2021.

Speaking of the Jensens, Jeremy, and his father Jeff had a big night in men’s league last Tuesday at Prairie Farms Golf Course. Jeremy shot a 3-under par 33 for low-gross honors, while Jeff netted a 33 for low net. Their Tire Rama team also took high team with 23 points. They were joined by C.J. and Lunar Evans.

Last Wednesday night saw Jim Kato catch fire with a 2-under par 34 for low gross, while Ric Floren played a fine round of golf, netting a 28.5. High team went to HUB Insurance with 22 points. The team was made up of Steve Mariani, Chad Edgar, Eric Wilting and Murray Hurlburt.

In ladies league last Thursday night, Patrick Construction and Schubert Agency shared high-team honors with 23 points each. Patrick was made up of Katie Heath, Kathy Peterson, Carolyn Patrick and Stacy Mantle. Schubert was composed of Katie Beck, Judi Adams, Joyce Donoven and Ashley Vandolah. I have to give a huge shoutout to Sarah Spangler who fired a one-under par 35 for low gross Thursday night. That’s an awesome round Sarah. Great job. Cindy Knudson was low net with a 31.5 as well.

Reminder, there is no ladies league this Thursday due to the Fourth of July holiday.
