The Lucky Valentines releasing singles from new album

A regional band well-known in Havre is pre-releasing singles from their new album “Horses” for purchase Sunday.

The Lucky Valentines of Fort Benton, which regular performs in Havre venues, will livestream its pre-release and pre-order on its Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/TheLuckyValentines .

The Lucky Valentines Jamie Carrier said they will be releasing one single a month for the next 10 months. 

She said they are a folk and Americana band.

“A lot of the artists that we love go under the Americana umbrella — it’s kind of hard to pinpoint in some ways, but that’s what we’ve settled on,” she said.  

The title track to their new album is about addiction, she said.

Lucky Valentines Shaun Carrier said he wrote it because he had a friend who was battling addiction during that time and being with him.

The tone of the song is just trying to be encouraging about the way addiction works, he said, adding that he has been sober and in recovery for about 15 years.

“I kind of blended the experience of watching a person who I had no idea they were addicted, had no idea they were struggling so hard with this for such a long time — so you got the blended experience of discovering that along with my journey with addiction and recovery and my own experience with those things,” he said.

Some of the other topics that they talk about, Jamie Carrier said, are happy, family songs — the joys of having little people around and getting older together.

The Lucky Valentines has one other album out that is on Spotify called “Lion in the Garden,” that came out in 2016.

Shaun Carrier said they met 11 years ago playing music down in Great Falls and after a year of playing together they got married.

They got married on Valentine’s Day and that’s where the band name came from, he said.

He said now they have four children together and have continued to play music together.

“We both love playing and we both love performing a lot,” he said. “We get set by that in a way that nothing else really kind of feels that void the way playing and performing does.”

Their next show is planned for July 11 in Fort Benton.
