A new manager of the Salvation Army Thrift Store has rolled out some changes in the store since she took over.
Meaghan McKnight started as store manager of Havre's Salvation Army manager at the end of May.
She said she is Havre native, but moved away for several years and then came back.
"I used to own a business," she said. "So, I kind of get to do what I like here."
She owned and operated a store that sold a combination of art, clothing, skateboards, etc. and also did consignment of locally made products of all sorts in California, she said.
She went to school for business at College of the Redwoods in Eureka, California, she added.
With the re-opening of the Salvation Army in the state's phased re-opening for the COVID-19 pandemic, she said, changes include keeping a lot more product on the floor.
"Just basically keeping it stocked up full of new stuff trying to basically every day have new things on the floor," McKnight said, "because there are customers that come in every day, and they want to get something and see something new and what not."
She doesn't think that the Salvation Army wasn't working great before, but it was the shutdown that inspired the workers to go through and change some things around aesthetically and get a flow going on the production side of things, she said.
People can drop off donations Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., she added.
She said the store hours are Wednesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The store is always looking for volunteers, she said.
The mission of the Salvation Army, she said, is to serve the community.
"Give our community another place to still be able to afford things," McKnight said. "... We still try to make sure that we are keeping the best quality of things and we're trying to take a little more time putting out better things on the floor opposed to just anything, I guess, then you become kind of the junky thrift store and we don't want that. We want it to be like quality is what we're hoping.
"I just enjoy what I do. I just enjoy the whole business aspect of things better than sitting in at an office all the time," she added. "I actually go nuts sitting in my office. I'd rather be helping with everything and making sure everything has a good flow."
