The Hill County Sheriff’s Office announced that an inmate at the county detention center unsuccessfully attempted to escape custody during a trip to the hospital.
Undersheriff Stan Martin said in a press release that Josh Reid, 41, was taken to the Northern Montana Hospital emergency room Friday about 9:29 p.m. with a detention center officer on standby with Reid.
Reid was being held in the jail on pending charges of partner or family member assault, burglary and probation violation.
At about 11:03 p.m., Martin said in the release, Reid was in the process of being released from the ER when he attempted to escape, running out of the doors of the hospital and pushing past a nurse who saw him running out.
The detention officers gave chase and was able to catch Reid and place him back in custody, Martin said.
He said Reid attempted to assault the detention officer during the foot chase, but the officer was not injured.
Reid was being held this morning on a total of $325,000 bond, $50,000 on the pending city charges, $25,000 on the probation violation charge and $250,000 on pending county charges charges of escape, assault on a peace officer and resisting arrest.
