Two-car crash kills all five involved

Fatalities include 8- and 5-year-old

A two-vehicle crash Friday evening on Upper Box Elder Road and Duck Creek in Chouteau County killed all five people in the vehicles, including two children.

Havre Daily News was unable to contact the authorized people at the Rocky Boy Police Department by printing deadline this morning to receive authorization to print the names of the victims.

Montana Highway Patrol reports it received a report of the crash at 8:35 p.m. Friday.

A 1999 Ford Taurus was northbound and a 2007 Chevrolet Impala was southbound when the right tires of the Taurus left the roadway, Highway Patrol reports.

The driver corrected the vehicle back to the left, causing it to go into a sideways slide with the passenger side of the Taurus leading.

The Taurus struck the Impala and then went into the ditch, Highway Patrol reports. The driver of the Taurus, a 30-year-old man, and the passenger in that vehicle, a 30-year-old man, were declared dead on the scene. Neither were wearing seat belts.

The drive of the Impala, a 30-year-old woman, and one passenger, an 8-year-old girl, were declared dead on the scene. The driver was not wearing a seat belt but the girl was.

Another passenger, a 5-year-old boy, also was not wearing a seat belt. He was transported to a hospital before being declared dead.

Alcohol and speed are suspected to be factors in the crash, the Highway Patrol reports.
