Editor's note: This version corrects the length of the sentence.

aden Peet was sentenced in state District Court in Havre Monday to probation and ordered to register as a Tier 1 sex offender after previously pleading guilty to a reduced charge in a case in which he was accused of forcing an underaged girl to have sex with him.

District Judge Yvonne Laird sentenced Peet on a count of sexual assault to 10 years with the state Department of Corrections, all suspended, ordered him to spend 180 days in the county jail and to pay $6,568.37 in restitution plus a 10 percent administrative fee.

She ordered him to spend the time in jail in 10-day blocks with all to be served within 36 months.

Peet was charged with two counts of sexual intercourse without consent, with the alleged victim younger than 16 and the defendant three or more years older, after he was accused of having sex with a pre-high school-aged girl.

In a plea agreement, the charges were amended to sexual assault where the victim is younger than 16 and the defendant is three or more years older than the victim. The plea agreement recommended a five-year suapended sentence.

Peet pleaded guilty to one of the amended charges of sexual assault.
