News you can use
It’s time for the Havre-Hill County Library’s Summer Reading Program, and we are striving for a fun and safe summer. This year’s theme is “Imagine Your Story,” so this summer we are all about fairy tales, myths and legends.
The magic begins June 10. There is a signup sheet in the Havre Daily News that you may cut out and return to the library via mail or the book drop. We will also have a virtual sign-up sheet available on Facebook. You may also email or call us with your list of readers, their ages, guardian’s name, phone number and address. You may also come into the library to register, but we are only allowing 10 patrons at at time into the building for now, so there may be a wait.
There is a tracking sheet available at the circulation desk but you may keep track of minutes at home; however you prefer. We recommend that you turn your minutes in once a week. Do this by filling out the form available on Facebook, calling the library at 265-2123, or sending us an email at [email protected] with the reader’s name, phone number, minutes read, and which prize — listed below — they want their entries in. We understand getting into the library is difficult at the moment, so you may keep track of minutes from everything you read in addition to the items you’ve checked out from the library. This includes print and audio. Make sure you turn in all of your minutes by July 29 at 6 p.m.
For every 100 minutes read, participants will receive a raffle ticket for entry into raffles that will be drawn July 30. The raffle prizes are:
1. “Dragons Love Tacos” plushies
2. Hansel and Gretel storytelling playset
3. Melissa and Doug Palace Pals Puppets.
4. Melissa and Doug colorful block set.
5. Dragon tent.
6. Harry Potter wand laser tag set.
Everyone who completes their goal will receive a certificate of completion and a loot bag. The top three readers in each age category will be crowned Reading Royalty and receive a sports bag and a book credit from Havre Book Exchange. Top three overall readers under 18 receive a dragon!* The top three adult readers will receive a book lamp and travel mug. The top overall adult reader will also receive a dragon.*
To discourage large gatherings, all of our programming will remain virtual for the time being. Minutes spent watching our live streams or participating in our self-led activities may be counted toward minutes read. Mondays start off the week with singing and dancing. Tuesdays and Thursdays are Curiosity Corner at 3:30 p.m. Drop into the discussion or just learn something new. Wednesdays we craft! Take-home craft kits will be available for Wednesday’s tutorials the previous Thursday. Friday enjoy some old-fashioned storytelling featuring amateur puppet work from your children’s librarian. For full details on our self-led social media activities visit us on Facebook.
