Paige Henderson tees off on the third hole at Prairie Farms Golf Course last Thursday night. The round was the first night of Ladies League at Prairie Farms, and it capped the opening week of league golf at both Prairie Farms and Beaver Creek Golf Course. Leagues had been delayed by the coronavirus pandemic, but with Montana's re-opening over the last month, leagues and tournaments are moving forward.
Last week was a big one for local golf courses. In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, the game of golf has been a source of fun, an outlet, even a comfort.
And, in Havre, the game took another step forward as golf leagues at Prairie Farms Golf Course and Beaver Creek Golf Course began last week. Leagues were about a full month behind due to the pandemic, but they're underway now.
In men's league at Prairie Farms last Tuesday night, Jeff Jensen fired a two-under par 34 for low gross, while Jared Weigh was low net at 35.5. High team was Myers Ranch with 23.5 points. The team is composed of Mason Sheppard, Jake Myers, Greg Mosness and Jerry Wagner.
Last Wednesday night in men's league saw Valley Furniture and Hub Insurance tie for high-team honors with 20.5 points. Cal Wirtzberger, Dave Peterson, Brent Reber and Kerry Ward made up the Valley squad, while Steve Mariani, Chad Edgar, Eric Wilting and Murray Hurlburt composed the HUB team. Kyle Miller was low gross Wednesday night with a 38 and Kerry Ward was low net at 36.
Last Thursday night also saw the start of Ladies League at Prairie Farms. Double R was high team with 21.5 points. The team was made up of Ali Ward, Laramie Schwenke, Connie Peterson and Paige Henderson. Carrie Kato was low gross with a 41, while Susie LaSalle was low net 30.
In the opening night of men's league at Beaver Creek last Thursday, Plain Green scored high-team honors with 23.5 points. The team was made up of Tony Lawson, Isiah Murie, Jim Rader and Richard McDonald. Dustin Haas was low gross with a one-over 37, while Andre Wright was low net at 28.5.
