Household
Isn't it interesting, Lord, to note that the word "household" can be defined as an "occupied dwelling that has its own entrance - and a kitchen?" These views are gleaned from "Its Own Entrance and a Kitchen," by Richard G. Champion, as follows:
"One ponders over 'households' with fragmented families multiplying. Households are for eating and sleeping, among other things. A bedroom isn't really necessary as one could sleep in a chair or on the floor in the kitchen.
"A door, yes, to go in and to go out, but a kitchen? Why a kitchen? That's where food is fixed and everyone has to eat – even IF it is only dry cereal in a bowl. A kitchen is usually where conversation happens, or grunts made that only family members hopefully understand. Almost all households have the latest in modern communication - the refrigerator, which acts as the 'message center' to hold messages.
"Teaching also happens in a kitchen: manners, nutrition, values, behavior, spiritually, etc.; by example or unintentional, but it does occur. You, Lord, have the spiritual qualifications of this definition of a household, an entrance and a Kitchen. In John 10:9 we read that You said, 'I am the door: by Me if any man enter in, he shall be saved.' Also, John 6:35, 'I am the bread of life: he that cometh to Me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on Me shall never thirst.'"
Lord, Your influence is needed in our everyday circumstances and conditions. In our own challenging times, when our life seems, oh, so overwhelming, would You join me in my kitchen, Lord, for conversation and communication, and feed me of Your food?
May we all remember that in blessed gratitude of You, Lord, we can thank You daily that You are ever with us.
Love, Mara
