What? Me, wait?
You know, Lord, everyone knows that You answer prayers, but few realize that You are apt to give one of three answers. We all expect Your answer to be a resounding “Yes!” — and preferable answered yesterday. We take You for granted, merrily going on with our lives, thinking things will forever go our way.
We sometimes chose not to hear Your “No.” Then we sulk and pout instead of searching out where we asked awry. We fail to discover Your perfect will for us.
When Your answer is “Wait,” we’re like that crawling baby headed straight for a peck of trouble. But along comes Uncle Dusty who sticks out his long leg and with the heel of his cowboy boot, terminates further movement by stepping on the drawstrings of the crawling baby’s gown. Baby continues crawling, getting nowhere except into a little ball at the neck of the gown. When baby realizes that progress has stopped, one can be sure to hear a vocal protest. Guess what — we are just like that baby, we are certainly not much good when we are all wrapped in a ball at the top of our gown and, believe it or not, we are equally as vocal. Can we just envision a scenario something like this, and if so, can’t we almost chuckle at this mental illustration?
We are so impatient — that’s us! We need to acquaint ourselves with You and discover how You answer prayers. Your word (James 2:2b-3) states, “… ye have not, because ye ask not. Ye ask and received not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.” We have so much to learn, dear Father in heaven, we pray that You will help us to learn that sometimes it is best to wait!
Thank You, Lord, for being so patient with us.
Love, Mara
