Montana State University-Northern senior Adam Huse was recently named an NAIA All-American. Huse earned Honorable Mention honors after a strong senior season, in which he became a member of Northern's 1,000-point club.
Former Havre Blue Pony and Carroll College senior Dane Warp was named a Second-Team NAIA All-American this season. Warp led Carroll in scoring on his way to earning All-American honors for the second year in a row.
Carroll junior Dani Wagner, another former Pony, was named an NAIA Women's All-American. Wagner earned Honorable Mention honors after leading the Fighting Saints in scoring this past season.
The NAIA basketball season ended suddenly, when the men's and women's national tournaments were canceled due to the growing coronavirus crisis last month. But the awards circuit is ongoing, and three players with local ties earned high honors last week.
Montana State University-Northern senior guard Adam Huse was named NAIA All-American Honorable Mention when the 2020 NAIA Men's All-American Team was announced.
Huse, a senior from Bozeman had a stellar senior season for the Lights, averaging 13 points per game, while also shooting 49 percent from the field. Huse also led the Lights by shooting 43 percent from the 3-point-line and had the most assists on the team with 102.
Huse, who also joined the prestigious 1,000-point club at Northern earlier this season, also earned Frontier All-Conference honors for the second straight season.
Meanwhile, a pair of former Havre Blue Ponies also were tabbed as NAIA All-Americans.
Carroll College senior star Dane Warp was named NAIA Second-Team All-American. The former Blue Pony great led the Saints in scoring at 18.4 points, while adding in 4.7 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game. Warp shot 48 percent from the field, 44 percent from the 3-point-line and 84 percent from the foul line. Warp finished No. 13 on the Saints' all-time scoring list with 1,545 points. He's been a part of a school-record 110 wins during his four seasons as a Saint.
On the women's side, Carroll's Dani Wagner was named an NAIA Women's All-American Honorable Mention standout for the 2019-2020 season. Wagner, a junior guard from Havre, led the Saints in scoring at 13.4 points per game. Her five rebounds per night were second on the team. She shot 44 percent from the field, and 31 percent from the three, while knocking down 76 percent of her free throws.
As for the entire women's All-American Team, the Frontier had 10 players selected. Rocky Mountain College's Markaela Francis was named First Team, Carroll's Christine Denny and Providence' Parker Esary were Second Team, Lewis-Clark State's Kiara Burlage and UP's Emilee Maldonado were Third Team, while RMC's Kloie Thatcher, LC State's Jamie Nielson, Western's Savanna Bignell and Montana Tech's Mesa Williams joined Wagner as Honorable Mention.
On the men's side, nine total players from the Frontier were honored. Zach Darko-Kelly of Providence made First Team, LCSC's Damek Mitchell was Third Team, Carroll's Jovan Sljivancanin, LCSC's Trystan Bradley, Tech's Taylor England and Sindou Diallo and UP's Jaxen Hashley joined Huse as Honorable Mention.
