Havre Youth Baseball adjusts to COVID-19 crisis

More and more sports continue to be affected by the spreading and growing COVID-19 crisis in the United States, and while winter gives way to spring, and eventually summer, the biggest sport of the warm weather season, baseball, is also going to be affected.

Over the weekend, the Havre Youth Baseball Association released a statement about how it is proceeding due to the COVID-19 crisis in Montana. The statement reads as follows:

"To Havre and the Surrounding Communities:

"The Havre Youth Baseball Association (HYBA) is committed to the health and wellness of the children. Due to the COVID-19 virus, we are discussing and taking necessary precautions, which currently includes the temporary shutdown of the Dugout and postponing any tryouts, practices, and games until further notice.

"HYBA will proceed with administrative duties with the intention of having a 2020 baseball season and we will continue to accept registration forms until March 31, waiving all late fees. Should the risk of exposure continue longer than expected, HYBA will adjust our start times for the 2020 baseball season and notify you as soon as possible.

"The Havre Northstars, under the guidance of The American Legion Baseball National Committee will postpone all tryouts, practices, and games until further notice. All administrative duties will proceed with the intention of having a 2020 American Legion baseball season.

"If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please contact us by sending an e-mail to [email protected]. Thank you for your patience and understanding."

The Northstars were set to being practicing next week, but, that will be on hold for now, as is the case with all other youth and high school-aged sports in Montana. The Northstars are set to host the 2020 Class A State Tournament at Legion Field in late July.

Montana High School Association spring sports are in the midst of a suspension imposed now just more than a week ago. The MHSA will reevaluate the COVID-19 situation as it relates to spring sports on April 13.
