Big Sandy Schools announces procedure for building closure

The Big Sandy public school district has released information on how it will be handling the school closure required to reduce exposure to novel coronavirus 2019.

"Remember that the school is closed to all non-essential personnel for the next two weeks," Big Sandy Superintendent Kelly Haaland and Principal Heather Wolery said in a release. "Again we thank you all for your understanding and patience in this matter. This is all uncharted territory for all of us. Stay home and stay healthy."

Big Sandy Schools will be handling the governor-mandated two-week school closure in the following manner:

1. Breakfast and Lunch will be available to all students in a curbside pick-up manner at the Elementary and High School. Breakfast will be available at 9 a.m. and lunch at 1 p.m.

2. Parents of junior high and high school students - If your child does not have their chromebook you can pick up their device with breakfast or lunch tomorrow at the High School. If you feel that your student still has essential items in their lockers requests can be made to acquire those items. If you aren't able to come in tomorrow please call the school and we will work out another time with you to pick up your child's device.

3. Parents of elementary students - You can pick up your child's device with breakfast or lunch tomorrow at the elementary school. If you need their winter clothing articles please call the school and we will have them available with their devices tomorrow. If you aren't able to come in tomorrow please call the school and we will work out another time with you to pick up your child's device.

4. Teachers will begin delivering online instruction Wednesday. If you do not have internet access at your house, please call the school and we will work out a plan.

5. Please be advised that the Annex, Gym and Weight Room will be closed until further notice. Fobs are turned off and doors are locked. We realize that this is a great inconvenience but we are doing our best to help keep our community healthy and safe.

6. The following events or seasons have been cancelled or postponed: Five-six Basketball Season - Canceled

Junior High Wrestling - Canceled

Track- Postponed. Coaches will be sending out more information about this to the athletes and parents

Kindergarten Registration and Early Childhood Screening that was scheduled for Friday, March 20, is postponed

Parent-Teacher Conferences for next week are postponed

Adult prom and prom are postponed.

Art field trip and job shadowing - Canceled

Pre-Festival Concert- postponed
