Montana Actors' Theatre production of "Mamma Mia" starts Friday, 8 p.m., at the Little Theatre in Cowan Hall on Montana State University-Northern's campus.
"Mamma Mia!" is a world-famous musical about a wedding, a daughter, a mother and three possible fathers.
The bride wants her father to walk her down the aisle, but doesn't know which of three men actually is her father - and invites them all to the wedding.
The play uses songs by the Swedish pop group ABBA, including the song used for the title of the play.
ABBA members and songwriters Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus helped develop the show and ABBA singer Anni-Frid Lyngstad has been financially involved.
It premiered in London's West End and has been shown around the world, including a 14-year run on Broadway, and has been made into two movies, "Mamma Mia!" in 2008 and "Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again!" in 2018.
MAT's production is directed by Angie Pratt.
"The original plan was to bring in a guest director from Fort Peck. I was slotted to help with music when he couldn't be here," she said. "Plans for him to come fell through and I was asked to step in as director."
She said she has enjoyed the cast she is working with and the music of ABBA.
"ABBA music is hard to not sing along to," Pratt said.
Every song has a chorus back up so there were a lot of parts and words to learn which was challenging, she said, adding that sickness has also been a challenge during the pre-show time.
The play starts at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with the door and the backstage lounge opening at 7:30 p.m.
Night-time showings also are set for Thursday, March 19, through Saturday, March 20, and Thursday, March 26, through Saturday, March 28.
Matinée performances start at 2 p.m. with the doors and backstage lounge opening at 1:30 p.m. this Saturday and Saturday, March 21.
Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for students, seniors and members of the military, and free to Northern students with a valid I.D.
