Montana State University-Northern head volleyball coach Jerry Wagner has assembled an outstanding recruiting class for the upcoming season. And he recently added to it with an outstanding setter.
Wagner announced the signing of Anela Navor to an NAIA letter of intent. Navor comes to Northern from Treasure Valley Community College where she was Treasure Valley CC/NWAC Conference, 2019 NWAC All-Tournament Team, a Five-Time East Region Setter of the Week, NWAC Setter of the Week and 2019 2nd Team All conference East Region.
"I'm ecstatic to announce that Anela Navor has chosen to be a student/athlete at MSU-Northern," Wagner said. "In my mind, the signing of Anela has allowed us to complete and to have addressed all of our 2020 recruiting class goals which were to increase our talent level, athleticism, depth and experience.
"Anela's experience from high school and club volleyball in Hawaii along with her outstanding junior college career at Treasure Valley Community College have allowed her to gain a vast amount of knowledge and experience at a high level," he continued. "As a setter she will have the chance to impact the game on almost every play and with her experience she will help the team to increase our hitting percentage which is one of our biggest goals."
Navor is a 5-7 setter who went to Treasure Valley out of Waiakea High School in Hilo, Hawaii, where she was All-Conference in both 2017 and 2018.
"As a setter she will have the chance to impact the game on almost every play and with her experience she will help the team to increase our hitting percentage which is one of our biggest goals," Wagner said. "I had the privilege of meeting Anela's club coach Laura Thompson and I have known her Treasure Valley Community College coach Erin Mellinger since 2005. Both coaches had nothing but praise for Anela's character, attitude and effort on and off the court."
"Anela is a great leader, a very versatile setter, who can control the temp of any match," Mellinger said. "She will be greatly missed at Treasure Valley and we wish her the best at MSU-Northern."
Navor plans on majoring in business at Northern, and will have three years of eligibility.
"I am very excited to continue my education and volleyball career at Montana State-Northern," Navor said. "Once I arrived on campus and spent time walking around all of the buildings, I felt very comfortable and welcomed in the environment I was in. This helped finalize my decision on committing to MSU-N, along with how well I felt about the volleyball program."
