News you can use
Editor,
Do you make a soup, chili or stew that’s so delicious that you would love to share it with your community — and possibly win an award for the best soup in town?
Now you have that opportunity. The Havre Dog Park Club will hold the Havre Soup Challenge April 4.
All you have to do is bring a slow cooker full of your homemade soup, chili or stew to Old Station Brewing Co., 140 First St. in Havre, at noon April 4. Everyone is invited to stop in to sample the entries or have a bowl of their favorite from noon to 4 p.m.
There is no cost to enter your soup, chili or stew. But because this is a fundraiser to help build Havre’s first off-leash dog park, people who want to eat them will have to pay. The cost is $25 a person, for the opportunity to eat the soup and for a beautiful bowl handcrafted and donated by Steve Helmbrecht.
Two prizes will be awarded, each based on a blind taste test. One is for the best soup, chili or stew, awarded by a panel of three judges. The other will be a people’s choice award, with each vote costing a dollar. People can vote for their favorite as many times as they like.
The event will also feature a 50/50 drawing and silent auction items.
So, cook up a pot of your favorite recipe and enter the contest, which is limited to 30 entries. Or bring your appetite and enjoy a delicious lunch while helping the Havre Dog Park Club reach its goal of building Havre’s first off-leash dog park.
The park will be located southeast of the Havre Ice Dome. The club intends to break ground on the park once the weather permits in the spring.
