The Fort Benton boys basketball team made history Saturday night in Great Falls, winning their first-ever Northern C title. They did it by beating 9C rival Big Sandy in the championship game. The Pioneers will now have to play Belt in a challenge game Monday night in Great Falls. Defending champion Chinook lost to Belt in the consolation game Saturday afternoon, to finish third.
In the girls tourney, Fort Benton beat Hays-Lodge Pole in the consolation game, but, because Roy-Winifred beat Belt in the championship game, the Longhorns can't challenge to go to state. Fort Benton also eliminated Turner on Saturday morning.
At the Eastern A in Billings, the Havre girls beat both Glendive andLivingston to finish third, while the Pony boys lost to Laurel in the consolation semifinals Saturday morning.
At the Northern B boys in Malta, Harlem was upset by Malta in a looser-out game Saturday morning, but, Rocky Boy beat the Mustangs in the consolation game Saturday night to advance to state.
