An auction and spaghetti dinner to help with costs of finding a home and buying necessities is set for Kody Farmer of Chinook Friday, March 6, at the Chinook Eagles Club.
Farmer is a sports reporter at the Blaine County Journal News-Opinion. His house burnt down Feb. 1 and he lost everything he owned, including his dog.
"He is a big part of our community," Chinook Eagles Club bartender Britney Nelson said. "He works for the Journal here in Chinook, and there is not one kid on the Hi-Line that he does not know a stat about, whether it's sports or academic or any kind of kid in general, so he's a big part of the community."
Nelson said she is hosting the benefit.
"We are putting on the benefit on to put into a bank account, so he can build his life back up and get an apartment or get something," Nelson said. "He lost everything, all his memories, all his clothes, everything. He definitely needs money to be able to move on from here because building your life just on a paycheck from work from scratch is pretty hard to do."
Items they have collected for the silent and live auctions include 100 pounds of meat, half a hog, full hog, some paintings, a vacuum and more.
People interested in donating items or for more information, can contact the Chinook Eagles Club at 357-2329.
The idea is to get as many donations to help Farmer, for because has helped the community in many ways, she said.
At the benefit March 6, a silent auction begins at 2 p.m. and a spaghetti dinner begins at 5 p.m.
A live auction begins at 7 p.m. hosted by Kevin Elias of Chinook and Shane Ophus of Big Sandy.
