Former Havre Blue Pony Dane Warp has always been more than just a star athlete. He's been a gifted student, and a giving member of the community.
Now, Warp is being recognized for that as a finalist for the Montana AAU Little Sullivan Award. Warp, a senior at Carroll College was named as one of four finalists for the Male Little Sullivan Award.
Warp joins Sidney's Gresch Jones, a nationally ranked wrestler at Dickinson State, Montana Western linebacker Jason Ferris and Oregon State star Tres Tinkle, originally from Missoula, as the four finalists.
The female finalists are: Catherine Russo, Butte High, swimming; McKenzie Johnston, Helena Capital, Montana, basketball; Paige Harris, Plentywood, North Dakota State, track and field; and Teigan Avery, Kalispell Glacier, Montana, golf.
Warp is having an outstanding senior season for the Fighting Saints, all the while juggling interviews for medical schools.
Warp averages 19 points and five rebounds per game for the Saints, who are fighting for a return trip to the NAIA national tournament, where Warp helped Carroll reach the championship game a year ago. He's also shooting 49 percent from the field and 43 percent from the 3-point-line.
Warp is the second straight local to be nominated for the Little Sullivan Award. Montana State University-Northern national champion wrestler Brandon Weber won the award in 2019.
The 2020 Little Sullivan Award banquet will be held at Fairmont Hot Springs May 9.
