Candidates listed for Rocky Boy special election to fill vacant seat

In January the Chippewa Cree Business Committee by resolution declared a position on the Business Committee vacant, shortly after the after the unexpected death of former Chippewa Cree Business Committee member Mike Corcoran, and directed the Chippewa Cree Tribal Election Board to call for a special election to fill his seat.

The special election for the Business Committee position will be held Tuesday, Feb. 25, and 23 candidates have filed a petition applying for the vacant position.

The candidates who have filed are Jody Lamere, Melvin “Junior” Morsette, Laurie A. Sunchild, Josh Seaton, Florencine “Dixie” Stump, J.R. Rosette, Daryl Wright II, Emery “Paco” Nault, Loni Whitford-Taylor, Ken St. Marks, State Rep. Jonathan Windyboy, D-Box Elder, Duane M. Gopher, Tim Koop Sr., Mike Geboe, George Henderson Sr., Harriet Standing Rock, Brandon T. Gopher, Cody Rivas Sr., Pete T. Lamere, Ted Parker, William Sonny Boy St. Marks, Chelsey St. Pierre and Paulette Standing Rock.

A public notice from the Chippewa Cree Tribal Election Board says that the special election will be held at the Wellness Center which is located on Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation. It adds that polls will be open for voting from 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Absentee voting will begin Thursday, Feb. 20, at the tribal office and will end Monday, Feb. 24, the public notice says.
