Obituary - James 'Buzzy' Sangrey

James “Buzzy” Sangrey, 75, passed away due to natural causes at his residence Tuesday, February 4, 2020.

Wake services began at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2020, with a rosary recited at 7:00 p.m., and funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. today, February 6, 2020, all at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. Burial followed in the Warrior’s Burial Grounds Cemetery.

Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

Buzzy was born August 20, 1944, in Fort Belknap to Samuel and Minnie (Gopher) Sangrey Sr. He was raised in Rocky Boy, Helena, and Busby, Montana, graduating from Busby High School in 1963.

A few months after graduation, Buzzy enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served until his honorable discharge in 1967, when he returned to Rocky Boy.

Over the years, he worked for Northern Natural Gas, the Bureau of Land Management, the U.S. Air Force as a civilian employee, the Bureau of Indian Affairs and as a heavy equipment operator at various companies.

Buzzy was an accomplished handyman and enjoyed most outdoor activities, including hunting and fishing. He was an avid gambler, enjoying a good card game.

He was preceded in death by his grandsons James Sangrey and Rowdy Denny; parents, Samuel and Minnie Sangrey Sr .; brothers Dennis Sangrey Sr. and Michael Sangrey Sr., and sisters Sybil (Sangrey) Colliflower, Madeline Gardipee, Rena Gardipee, Charlotte Sangrey and Inez Sangrey.

Buzzy is survived by his daughters, Dawn, Lisa, and Caryn Sangrey; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sisters Mona (Odin) Henderson and Patsy Raining Bird; brothers Samuel (Harriet) Sangrey Jr. and Richard Sangrey, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
