Havre Trails is hosting a Snowshoe Hike Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Eagle Creek, which is located to the east of Bear Paw Ski Bowl on Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation.
People interested in going need to meet at 9:30 a.m. at the District 4 Human Resources Development Council building to carpool out to Eagle Creek.
Havre Trails president Lindsey Bennett said people should bring snowshoes, layered clothing, water, snacks and a leash if they plan on bringing their dog. Waterproof pants or gaiters are recommended.
Snowshoes are available for rental at https://www.msun.edu/stuactivities/recreationequipment.aspx .
Bennett said the Chippewa Cree Business Committee and Natural Resources Department have granted Havre Trails a group recreation permit that allows them to hike on the reservation for this event, adding that if people would like to hike on their own on tribal land in the future, they can purchase a permit from the Tribal Natural Resources Department by calling 395-4207.
“(This event is) to get the community outside and enjoying the awesome outdoors opportunities available in our region,” she said.
She added that Havre Trails tries to plan snowshoe hikes throughout the winter as the snow levels allow.
People who would like additional information or have questions can contact Bennet at 301-3991.
