In their final tournament of the regular season, the Montana State University-Northern Lights were simply dominant.
Saturday at the Tyler Plummer Classic in Dickinson, North Dakota, the No. 18 Lights placed 12 wrestlers and had five individual champions.
In his return from injury, 197-pound star Isaac Bartel was one of those five champions, going 3-0 in his weight class to claim his third title of the season. At 184, it was an all-Northern final as Carl Hansen beat Cody Goulding in the championship match, while Chase Short continued MSU-N’s dominance in the upper weights with a 3-0 run and the championship at 174.
Northern also hogged the finals at 133 and 125 pounds. At 133, Nick Kunz beat teammate Carl Cronin in the championship bout, while Rob Pair bested Kaleb Frank for the 125-pound champions.
Other Lights to shine Saturday included, Brennon Veis taking fourth at 141 pounds, Lane Paulson finishing second at 149, Caden Hilliard placing fifth at 157 and Nakoda Seigel finishing second at 165.
The Lights will now get ready for the big dual finish to the regular season. Northern has back-to-back home dual against Northwest College Feb. 7 and Embry-Riddle Feb. 8 before heading to Billings for their rematch with the Providence Argos on Feb. 13.
