North Star speech takes third in divisionals, heads on to state

Press release

Editor’s note: The original results had the wrong finish for the Class C drama results. This version of the story reports North Star’s third-place finish in drama.

North Star High School speech and drama team traveled to Shelby Saturday to compete in the Northern Divisional Tournament, bringing home some divisional champions and team trophies.

The Knights came away with six out of seven team members qualifying to compete in the state tournament, being held in Big Fork Jan. 31 to Feb.1, as well as bringing home two divisional champions.

In order to qualify for state, the competitors must place in the top six of that event.

In speech, Aubrey Welch took first in spontaneous oral interpretation of literature; Daniel Nerat placed third in impromptu speaking; Collin Welch took fourth in humorous oral interpretation of literature, and Garret Pedersen was 10th in humorous oral interpretation of literature.

In drama, Hayden Massar took first in humorous solo acting, and Choral Wicks and Kaden Frickel placed third in dramatic theatre.

As a team, North Star took home the third-place trophies both for Class C speech and for drama.
