Just like her mom, Blue Pony Kadia Miller has had a stellar basketball career in Havre
There are many cases in sports where a player passes a torch to another. Sometimes it's from a veteran athlete to a rookie, while in other cases it may be from a parent to a child.
That case comes to mind for Havre High senior Kadia Miller, a four-year player for the Havre High girls basketball team.
Miller has been involved in hoops since the fifth grade and has made big strides since then. Her level of play has made a big impact for the Blue Ponies and Miller's career resume has been strong.
Miller is in the final year of her basketball career at Havre and she has her goals focused to match her team's ambitions this year.
"I hope my goals are the same as everyone else," Miller said. "To get better, continue improving and reach the next level in our basketball game."
When looking at Miller's career, many could say she's been reaching new levels every year. Miller has been part of two state championships for the Ponies, has been a starter for the Ponies for quite some time and has been a two-time All-State selection. Her talent on the court is highly admired among her team and Blue Pony fans.
And the Miller name itself has been quite strong in Havre for a long time. Miller's mother was a star player for then Northern Montana College, while her older sister Amelia Miller was a standout swimmer for Havre High, now attending the University of Nebraska. And her younger sister, Yelena Miller is looking to make some noise in Blue Pony volleyball and basketball.
Miller has had a lot of influences and motivations on the hardwood, but her mother has been a central inspiration for her throughout her basketball career.
"My mom has influenced me a lot," Miller said. "She played basketball at Northern and she was really good. She has helped me a lot just by guiding me through challenges and everything."
The performances that Miller has produced over the years with the Blue Ponies has been memorable. Many who have seen her play have witnessed a young standout that is determined and tough. Her intensity on the court and bond with her teammates have produced some incredible moments and over the years and she's not done yet.
And at this point in her senior year, Miller has plans to give it her all when it comes to her future after graduating. Miller has been part of a grand design on the court over the years, but now she looks to learn how to formulate designs of her own.
"I plan to attend Montana State University in Bozeman in the fall semester and go into architecture."
Miller has had a powerful career as a Blue Pony and her final moments with Havre are drawing nearer.
Whether it's her family, friends, team or the people around her, Miller makes an impact everywhere she's been. There will be a lot to look out for when Miller is on the court because she plans to make some noise in her last season.
Miller will look to do just that against conference opponents Glendive and Miles City this weekend, as well. But before Northeast A showdowns hit the hardwood, Havre Daily News caught up with Miller for five questions.
