The Havre Area Chamber of Commerce annual Ice Fishing Tournament and raffle is set for Saturday, Jan. 25, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Fresno Reservoir.
"The chamber puts on the tournament to provide an event for those that want to get outside during the winter. We have many ice fishermen and women in Havre and it's always fun to get them together for one tournament," Chamber Executive Director Julea Robbins said. "It's a chance for ice fishermen to enjoy their sport in a competitive environment and get a chance to win monetary prizes."
This will be the third year the Chamber has brought back the event, though last year it was canceled due to warm weather, she said, adding that this year's tournament is a one-day event where in years past it used to be a two-day event.
The Chamber ice fishing tournament took a few-year hiatus earlier this decade.
People interested in participating in this year's tournament must pay a $25 entry fee in cash or by check. Checks must be made out to Havre Area Chamber of Commerce.
Participants must send an application with the entry to Havre Chamber of Commerce, PO Box 308, Havre, MT 59501 or drop it off at the Chamber office at 130 Fifth Ave.
For the raffle, 200 tickets will also be sold for $20 each.
All proceeds collected from the raffle will go to Havre High School student scholarships.
The ice fishing tournament will have cash prizes and based on the number of participants, for the largest of any of the four species specified in the rules, walleye, perch, northern pike and crappie.
The anglers must follow Montana fish regulations and possession limits. Children younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult and each child will receive a free fishing rod provided by Fresno Chapter of Walleyes Unlimited.

"I think this event is a great fun way to get and have some fun during these cold winter months," Robbins said.
