HHS setter Peyton Brown to play at Williston

The 2019 Havre High volleyball team has already had two seniors sign on to collegiate programs and now add a third to that list. After an astounding last year as the starting setter for the Blue Ponies, Peyton Brown will be heading to play with the Williston State College Tetons in Williston, North Dakota, next fall.

Not only has Brown signed with Williston State but she will be playing on a full-ride athletic scholarship for the Lady Tetons. When it comes to scholarships for athletes, a full-ride one means a lot.

Brown was glad to be given the opportunity for the scholarship and to move forward with her volleyball career for a great college, she said at her signing event Friday in the HHS gymnasium.

“I chose Williston because it’s a really nice school,” Brown said. “They have a good program going on over there and I thought I’d be a good fit there.”

The Tetons will be snagging a well-rounded setter. Brown racked up some big numbers on assists throughout the fall season, as well as a good number of digs, too. Not only can Brown help her team ignite offensively, but she can keep them in the game defensively, as well.

Williston State head coach Chelsea Hinck can look forward to a great career from Brown, who is an All-Conference selection, an Academic All-State selection with a 3.9 GPA and an overall great team player.

Per the Williston State athletics website, Hinck is excited to have Brown on the Teton roster.

"We are thrilled to have an athlete as Peyton’s stature join the volleyball program here at Williston State," Hinck said. "She will be a great addition to our future with her ability on the court and in the classroom.”

Brown averaged about 83 sets with the Blue Ponies throughout her career and ended her senior year with 15 aces and an 86 percent serving percentage. Brown totaled 174 digs, 233 assists and averaged almost seven assists per set in helping Havre take fourth at state back in November.

For Brown, the program at Williston State will be a great future for her athletic and academic career.

“I hope to be a positive asset to the team,” Brown said. “Obviously, I want to keep up with my academics as well. I aim to go to regionals with my team and just have a fun time.”
