It was a busy second weekend of high school girls basketball on the Hi-Line.
Many area teams opened their new seasons at preseason tournaments across Montana and on the Hi-Line.
At the Dutton-Brady Tournament, held Friday and Saturday, the North Star Knights started the season by going 2-0. Friday night, North Star beat the Augusta Elks 55-50 in an exciting game, while the Knights throttled the host Dutton-Brady Diamondbacks 54-10 Saturday.
The Big Sandy Pioneers were also in Dutton for the tournament, and they played the same two teams the Knights did. Friday night, the Pioneers beat the Diamondbacks 51-25, but Big Sandy fell to Augusta 58-28 Saturday.
Chinook meanwhile, was doing battle this past weekend against Class B powers at the Shelby Preseason Tournament.
Friday night, the Sugarbeeters lost to the Bigfork Vikings 55-32, then they fell to Cut Bank 58-22 Saturday. In that game, Allison Powell led Chinook with eight points.
The weekend also saw the Fort Benton Longhorns open their season with a pair of home games in the Fort benton Tournament.
Friday night, Fort Benton beat Tri-Cities 49-32 in a tough game, while the Longhorns thumped Centerville 65-19 Saturday to start 2-0.
The Chester-Joplin-Inverness Hawks were set to start their season at a tournament in Cascade, but the team didn't have enough players to open the season, they hope to be ready for 9C play.
Also, after opening their season at the Native American Classic two weeks ago in Great Falls, Harlem, Rocky Boy, Hays-Lodge Pole and Box Elder will return to action this coming weekend. Turner also opened its season two weeks ago with a pair of wins in Glasgow and will now begin District 9C play this weekend.
