Bear Paw Winter Sports open and preparing for Bear Paw ski season

Snow Dance Ski Association has reopened the Bear Paw Winter Sports Store this year, providing skis, snowboards, equipment and other items for the public.

Proceeds from the sports store help fund the volunteer association’s work patrolling at Bear Paw Ski Bowl.

Snow Dance Association member Cortney Filler said that Bear Paw Winter Sports is open Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is doing seasonal rentals. She added that they have already made more than 20 seasonal rentals this year.

Once other hills in the state start opening, she said, Bear Paw Winter Sports will be doing weekend and daily rentals as, well. She added that the Ski Association is looking to open the Bear Paw Ski Bowl in January, weather depending, and once the ski bowl opens the store will be open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

She said that they have about 10 to 15 people who are volunteering at the shop and have about four volunteers per shift.

The ski shop also does ski and snowboard waxings and ski binding adjustments, she said. They also have equipment, skis and snowboards for sale.

Bear Paw Winter Sports opened briefly in November for a swap meet fundraising event but started opening regularly in the beginning of December.

Filler said the swap meet went well and they have had a good number of customers this year compared to last year. She added that the ski shop is also still accepting items on consignment. If people have old equipment, skis or snowboards they are looking to sell, the equipment can sell the ski shop on consignment.
