The Havre High School Key Club annual Christmas gift wrapping starts Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Boyce and Berry Flowers, 327 Third St.
“Christmas wrapping is an annual fundraiser that Havre High School Key Club runs in order to raise money to take families from Havre High Christmas shopping,” Havre High School math teacher and Key Club advisor Heather Haney said in an interview by email. “Students at Havre High School have aged out of the Salvation Army Angel Tree program, so we provide them with a Christmas that they may otherwise miss out on.”
People are welcome to bring their Christmas presents and the Key Club will wrap them, accepting free-will donations to help provide presents for families in need, she said.
“We use the money raised from our Christmas wrap station to sponsor families from Havre High School that cannot afford Christmas gifts,” she said. “We take the parent/guardian shopping at Walmart and give him/her a budget of around $500 and allow him/her to purchase gifts for everyone in the family.”
She added that the club has been putting on this event for about 10 years.
This year the club has hit a high level of participation with 42 members.
Saturday, Dec. 14 and Dec. 22, are two other days that people are able to take their presents to be wrapped.
“I believe that giving is a true act of selfless service; and through our wrapping event, we are able to give back to those in our school who are in need,” Haney said.
