Ice Hawks freeze Americans at home

The high school hockey season is still in its early stages and many teams across Montana have taken advantage of the early wins, while some are still pushing to pick up their first.

Meanwhile, other teams are working in the middle, with some wins and losses on the record. One of those teams is the Havre Ice Hawks, which, after losing tough games to Helena and Missoula, has found another win against the Great Falls Americans last Saturday in the Havre Ice Dome.

The Ice Hawks dished out a great performance on the ice in front of their home-crowd, beating the Americans 7-3. After the victory, Havre sits at a 3-4 record on the season, with plenty of games left on the schedule.

Ice Hawk's head coach Barry Brownlee was pleased with the improvements he saw within the team against Great Falls.

"Kids played very well as a team," said Brownlee. "And held the other team to only 14 shots. We had 34 shots against them."

Needless to say, it was a great weekend for Havre and its fans. With the Ice Hawks defense holding the Americans to a low number of shots, while putting up a great number themselves, it shows that the team has a lot of potential to make some noise in the upcoming games.

The win will be a great confidence-boost for Havre, too. After losses to the Bighorns and the Bruins, the Ice Hawks will be in good spirits after putting up a great performance at home. Now, the team will have its sights set on the rest of the season.

Havre will be taking a decent break before the next set of games. The Ice Hawks will play against Billings on Dec. 21 at 8 p.m. and Dec. 22 at 10:30 a.m. in the Havre Ice Dome.
