Two separate vehicles were reported Monday at 5:59 p.m. crashing into a cow on U.S. Highway 87.

Cattle are frequently reported near the highway in this area and six people had reported cattle on or near the highway in that region earlier in the day on another report was called in 15 minutes before the accident.

Havre Fire Chief Mel Paulson said that Havre ambulance was requested by the Rocky Boy ambulance to assist with checking patients after the crash. He added that Havre ambulance did not transport anyone after the crash.

Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Lewis Johnson said that a Dodge Dart with a driver and three passengers was traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 87 and struck a cow that was on the road near mile marker 95. The vehicle then pulled over to the side of the road.

A second crash was reported a few minutes later when a Chevreolet Malibu with a driver and a passenger also struck the cow.

Johnson said that the passenger of the Chevy Malibu, a teenage female, complained of a head injury and was transported by the Rocky Boy ambulance to Northern Montana Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
