U.S. Sen. Jon Tester, D-Mont., announced Monday he is nominating four students from this region including Havre’s Cameron Pleninger to the nation’s most prestigious U.S. military service academies.

Tester selected a total of 34 Montana nominees to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy based on their academic accomplishments, extracurricular activities, and commitment to serving and leading in the United States military. A nomination from a member of Congress is the first step in students’ applications to the four schools.

“I’m proud to nominate Montana’s best and brightest students to our nation’s most prestigious military academies each year,” Tester said. “These young men and women have earned this honor through their hard work in and out of the classroom, and I’m looking forward to watching them become the next generation of leaders to serve our state and this country.”

Tester nominated Pleninger to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Pleninger is a member of the Havre High School varsity wresting, cross country and track teams. He was accepted into the 2019 United States Coast Guard Academy’s AIM Program.
