Our beloved Louella Fox Stiffarm, whose Indian name was "Big Mountain Woman," 71, peacefully went to be with the angels November 24, 2019.
Lou was born to George and Ella (Bradley) Fox Sr. January 4, 1948, in Fort Belknap, MT. She was raised in Hays, MT and graduated from St. Paul Mission High School in 1967.
After high school, she moved with the relocation program to Los Angeles, CA, where she attended George Washington High Nursing School, receiving her LPN license.
Lou later came home and married Jeb Stiffarm. Out of this union, she had five children, Moses, Milo, Misty, Mella and Marlon. She later adopted Aaron Joseph Edwards. Louella attended Great Falls University and earned her bachelor's degree in teaching. She worked with the Headstart Program for a few years, and also with Lodge Pole Elementary teaching. After teaching for a while, she decided to work for the Fort Belknap Tribe as a CDC counselor for a while and then worked as a CHR for over 20 years, before retiring.
Her favorite pastimes were attending bingo, going to the casinos all along the highway, and visiting her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends. Lou lived a long, happy life surrounded by her family and friends, and is known for her feisty, sarcastic sense of humor.
She was preceded in death by her children Misty and Milo Stiffarm; parents, George and Ella Fox Sr .; brothers, George Fox, Jr., Steven Fox Sr., Ed Nicholson Sr., and Quentin Fox Sr .; and sister, Mary Fox Big Leggins.
Louella is survived by her children Moses, Mella, and Marlon (Ettsy) Stiffarm, and Aaron (Corretta) Edwards; 27 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; many adopted children; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
Wake services will begin at 3:00 p.m. Friday, November 29, 2019, with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. Friday, and will continue until her funeral service, which will be at noon Saturday, November 30, 2019, all at the St. Paul Mission Rec Center in Hays. Burial will follow in the Star Hill Cemetery.
