Havre police asking people to stay off the streets

Havre police said at 6:30 p.m. they are asking people to stay home if possible to stay off the icy streets.

Police report several crashes have occurred due to the slippery conditions.

Hospital Hill -- 13th Street from Fifth Avenue up the hill toward Highland Park and Northern Montana Hospital -- was closed as of 6;30 p.m.

Snow has been falling steadily in the region for the last several hours.

National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for Hill, Blaine and Liberty counties in effect from 3 p.m. Wednesday to 11 p.m. Thursday.

Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for Blaine County from 6 p.m. Wednesday through 11 p.m. Thursday.

The winter weather warning extends through Cacade and parts of Lewis and Clark counties to the Rocky Mountain front with up to a foot of snow in the plains near the mountains and more than two feet in the foothills of the Rockies expected.
