Marty Joe was born April 19, 1974, in Havre, MT, to Jerry Joe Doney and Roberta Belcourt. He was raised by his mother and George Cobell in Rocky Boy and Havre, where he attended school.

Following his school years, Marty Joe attended Northern Montana College, where he studied mechanics. Over the years, he worked as a welder, a heavy equipment operator in a mine, and as a self-employed mechanic all over Montana. He adored his children, and raised his daughters and son to work hard.

Marty Joe enjoyed reading, camping, hunting and riding motorcycles. He was a true outdoorsman who loved to go to the shooting range, especially with his daughter Izzy. He also really enjoyed playing video games, especially Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. Marty Joe's job as a mechanic was, in reality, a hobby for him. He truly loved anything mechanical or technical, and could rebuild it. His personality was magnetic, and people loved him. He was a positive, upbeat person, who loved to tease his family. However, his private life was truly private.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Gilbert and Irene Belcourt; aunts Marie Mock, Darlene Freeman and Dolly St. Marks; uncles Johnny Saltzmen, Popeye Belcourt, Martin Belcourt; and several members of his Doney family.

Marty Joe is survived by his children, Alexis Waddell of WI, Brandan Arthur of Butte, Angelie Belcourt-Lowe of Denver, CO, and Haddan Belcourt-Lowe and Isabelle Belcourt, both of Billings; two grandchildren, Harper and Paxton Waddell; mother, Roberta Randall of Billings; fathers, George (Deb) Cobell of Missoula and Jerry Joe (Lynn) Doney of Great Falls; sisters, Diane (Marcel) Belcourt of Gallatin Gateway, and Angel (Joe) Landrith of Redding, CA; brother, Colby Cobell of Bozeman; aunts Vera (Glen) lack of Polson, Shirley (David) Meyers, Rena Parisian, and Carla (John Jr.) Striker, all of Box Elder; uncles Marvin Belcourt of Box Elder, Harley (Darlene) Belcourt of Evro, Richard (Robin) Belcourt of Missoula, and George "Ponch" Belcourt of Box Elder; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and two special people, Hallie Belcourt of Billings, and Cammy Gladwell of Boulder.
