The Montana State University-Northern men’s basketball team is just one week away from the start of what promises to be an exciting 2019-2020 season.
And the Lights, of longtime head coach Shawn Huse, will start that season ranked No. 19 in all of NAIA.
The NAIA men’s and women’s Preseason Coaches Polls were released Wednesday, and in the men’s poll, the Lights are one of three Frontier Conference teams ranked in the Top 25. While Northern comes in at No. 19, the University of Providence starts the season ranked No. 12, while Lewis-Clark State is ranked No. 23. Defending Frontier champion, and 2019 NAIA runner-up, Carroll College also received votes in the preseason poll.
On the women’s side, Carroll starts the year ranked No. 7, and is one of three Frontier teams in the Top 25. Providence is ranked No. 17 and Rocky Mountain College is No. 18, while LC State and Montana Western received votes.
The Lights are in the Top 25 for the first time in two seasons. They open their season Nov. 2 against Providence College in the Armory Gymnasium.
