Havre Relay for Life date set for July 10

Relay For Life of North Central Montana 2020 will be held Friday, July 10, 2020, from 5 to 11 p.m. with no location announced yet.

The 2020 Relay For Life of North Central Montana will not include Chinook, which is planning to hold its own event, so the North Central Montana Relay will be based out of Havre, members of the local committee said during its monthly meeting in Havre Wednesday.

The 2020 Relay For Life of North Central Montana fundraising goal is set for $15,000.

During Festival Days, the committee held a bake sale outside of the Atrium Mall and raised $199.

"Not much I know, but every little bit helps," said Relay For Life Committee Co-Chair Donna Tilleman, an employee of the Havre Daily News.

The next fundraising effort is planned for Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 23 and 24, participating in a vendor show filled with crafts and baked goods at the Havre Eagles Club.

The committee also plans to hold fundraisers with the local breweries, Taco John's and more.

The committee members said, with the holidays approaching there might not be a fundraising event in the month of December, but with the New Year coming they want to do a taco and nacho bar with a silent auction.

The total amount raised at the joint 2019 relay, held in Chinook, was $20,083.07 with 11 registered teams.

"I was not expecting to raise that much. I actually set the goal kind of low and we doubled it," Tilleman said.

It is yet to be determined where the next Relay For Life in the area will be held, but the committee said members of the community are welcome to join any meeting and help out with volunteering or providing more information and ideas.

The relay has been held outdoors, but the committee plans to move it inside next year.

"It'll be an indoor event, so that is settled," Tilleman said.
